Managing Expectations
I want to be clear from the start, there are some things that you can not change about your soil. Some things that are tough to change and others that are easy to change if managed properly.
Even though you might not know these terms yet, it is a good reference for later.
What is easy to change?
With the right soil management practices, you can change the following:
Soil structure- Drainage / irrigation (with some exceptions)
- Soil Fertility
- Soil acidity
What is hard to change?
With harder soil management practices and time, you can/ may be able to change the following:
- Compaction
- Organic matter
- Soil Biology
- Water holding capacity
What is fixed?
The only way to PRACTICALLY change these is to excavate the area and replace the soil or move to a new location:
- Climate
- Topography
- Soil texture
